My Worship Playlist
Has this happened to you? You are in the car driving and you hear this song come on and it just conveys EVERYTHING you needed to hear in a particular season of your life. You claim it as your theme song for the day…or the week! Like, the composer of the song knew what you were going through and somehow magically put those words into music.
Yep, it’s happened to me.
I remember this one particular time when I felt like I was stuck in a waiting season. Like, God…c’mon! Talking to God like He is Santa or something and convincing Him to give me “the promise” because I’ve been good. But you know, God doesn’t work like that. I had come across this Bible verse in Isaiah 40:31 “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
And then the song came on….and it provided clarity for me: it is from Elevation Worship called “Wait on You.” I listened to the song and literally had to pull my car over and just cried. Like tears rolling down my face…and the thought came across my mind, I have not been waiting on God. I have been waiting on the promise to be fulfilled, but in MY waiting I was working hard to convince God it was time and was trying to open every door I could. And God was simply trying to invite me to rest in the waiting. To rest in Him. To trust in Him. To stop moving and working so hard so that He could clearly show me it was He who was moving on my behalf.
Worship music has always been such a huge part of my life. When life feels hard, I like to put songs on that speak truth and that will help fill my mind with hope and God’s promises for me. We live in a world where there seems to be constant pain, disappointment, loss and heartache. Music has a way to turn our whole attitude around and reach our soul where nothing else can. No words, no person, no other thing can minister to us the way music can.
