The Miracle in the Waiting

Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
— John 6-11

I love LOVE. Like, I love everything about love. The Disney Fairytale Wedding shows are my absolute favorite to watch. But you know, I was totally about to give up on finding love. Maybe that was my problem? I was trying to find love all on my own? Hey, but who hasn’t been there, done that? I remember one day swearing off dating. No more trying to “talk” to guys or even try to have anyone notice me. I was done! As soon as I had thought in my mind and my heart a new person walked into my life. He was someone I had known since I was 15. We had never truly gotten to know each other beyond casual friend outings or quick hallway conversations and here he was reaching out to me on My Space (we be old, lol). I literally remember thinking, yes! Finally, someone that I can talk to as a friend, no pressure, just be me because I KNOW he does not “like” me and I certainly do not “like” him. What had started as a casual friendship blossomed into the greatest love story of my life.

I can picture the wedding that is recorded in John Chapter 6. This couple waiting for the ultimate celebration of their love. So much anticipation built up to this joyous occasion. And then a wrench gets thrown into their celebration. The wine was GONE. Nothing left…and here’s the thing, the wedding was still going on. Not having wine to last your entire wedding celebration in those days was the biggest social embarrassment that would leave you the laughing stock for the rest of your life. And there in the midst of the celebration was Jesus. I love how John pictures Jesus as someone who loves to celebrate our happy occasions with us! Here Jesus was and Jesus’ mother and some servants approach Jesus with the problem. How many of us know WHO to run to when we have a problem? Mary did. She knew that those M&Ms, her BFF, an empty room for isolating were not answers to her problem. Jesus was the only one who could perform a miracle for them. So, Jesus asks the servants to do something that sounded so ridiculous and insignificant. He tells them to gather empty jars and fill them with water. It just didn’t make sense. How many of us have stopped our miracle from happening because it just sounded ridiculous! God, this isn’t how I expected you to perform this miracle for me. What are you asking me to do? I won’t. I just can’t. Well, those servants thankfully did as they were told and just like that Jesus had turned the water into wine.

I believe there is great significance in why this was Jesus’ first recorded miracle in the Bible. Do we trust Him? Do we trust God to do what He says He will do? Do we trust that God will restore those empty places of our hearts and turn them into something so much better? What miracle are you waiting for? What has God called you to do that seems so ridiculous? How can I rejoice God in my pain? How can I love again? How can I go into a new work field that I have never been in before? How God? Maybe if we stop worrying about the HOW and start trusting the WHO we would come to see God’s miracles unfold in our lives daily.

Today, is there a miracle you are asking God for? Can we step out in faith together for the miracle we are waiting for? Your miracle may not unfold the way you expected it to AT ALL. But He will see you through. I know because I have seen it for me. You are not alone girl. I see you. God sees you.
